The Social Impact Revolution

“Impact investment is the answer to the 2008 crash, in part.” It’s been said that revolutions come from bad harvests. The Great Recession of 2008 brought a myriad of social and economic injustices to the forefront. It motivated professionals from multiple sectors to reflect deeply on how their organisations impact society and how they could take this further to create positive impact. At the heart of today’s social impact revolution is not a new idea. Ben Franklin has been attributed with saying, “Do well by doing good.” Multiple sectors are finding more and more reason to work together in the wake of the social impact revolution. One illustrative example of ultra-collaboration across sectors is Social Impact Bonds (SIBs). Through this revolution, we may be amidst a more abundant harvest — one that finally nurtures solutions to our urgent social challenges.
